A weekend with the Tacoma Laparras

20 Apr

This weekend was nothing spectacular. We didn’t do anything extra special. However, I ended up taking a lot of pictures. It just felt different; sunny, fun, relaxing, lovely. I love, love, love living by the water! So, rather than blow up Instagram (which I am not beneath doing), I figured I would post them here instead. Family, if you want any, just text me. :)

The girls get their very first hair cuts!

9 Mar

The girls’ hair was getting pretty nasty. Belle had Hobbit hair and Sol’s looked like a bird’s nest. It was time. So we took them to our own stylist, Drew Elquist (whom, by the way, you should hook up with if you’re in Tacoma. She’s the best!) The girls did so wonderful. They sat still and didn’t cry. I was so amazed. We were in and out in 30 minutes!

Nick got a video of Belle getting her haircut. I took a bunch more videos over on Vine!

Look how adorable they are with their little girl cuts now (proud Mama moment).

18 Oct

No, we haven’t been so busy these past couple months that I have barely blogged. It’s not that, for sure. It’s just…life. Pregnancy. Family. Babies. Friends. I don’t do very well when I’m pregnant. I don’t like it and it sure doesn’t like me. Unfortunately that means other things get put on a back burner and almost forgotten about. My precious blog is one of those things.

But now, it’s my favorite time of year. My favorite month of the year. Soon to be my favorite day of the year. Not to mention this baby boy is due in 3 weeks. Here’s a peek inside our lives the last few months up until just two days ago.

Pictures :: 2014 vacation with the fam!

19 Aug

It has been a long summer. Long and hot. I’m ready for fall!! Anyway, we visited our families for almost 3 weeks and I have so many pictures from those days that it would blow up Instagram to post them all. So, hello my little blog. I have missed you.

Tea time with Solace

7 Feb

Yesterday Solace and I had our first tea party together. I made her some caffeine free Cinnamon Apple Spice tea with honey and I had coffee. Belle sat in the high chair eating a snack while Sol and I played together. Neither of them whined for almost 2 hours. It was bliss.

I can pretty much interpret most of what Solace is talking about. During our tea party we talked about my, hers and Ariel’s boobs, Papa, Angie G., uncle Michael, pants, jackets, taking sips of tea, worrying whether Belle had enough food, and prayed to Jesus. I think this will become a weekly, if not daily, tradition. I think it was helpful for her to have my undivided attention and to learn to relax and chill out for a while.

She loves to say “cheers!” and tap our cups together.

She’s growing up too fast.

Here’s a long video for anyone who cares to watch Sol in action. She’s a chatty girl for sure.

How I potty trained Solace in 3 DAYS!

20 Dec

I will not lie. This was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in parenting. You are on the whole time. I didn’t leave the house for 5 days. I had so much pee on me. When I first thought about having kids I never thought about potty training. They kinda went from diapers to underwear magically in my mind. When we finally got to it, I was scared. But it’s so worth it. Really. It’s been almost a week since I started on Day 1 and Solace is potty trained. AHH!!! (Oh, did I mention that Nick was gone the entire time I did this? Yeah, I was a little crazy)

My friend Kirby introduced me to the 3 Day Potty Training method. Buying that e-book will be so worth it. Read it. Again and again. Memorize it and say it out loud. Consistency is key. I would say prepare yourself for the next 3 days but you honestly can’t. You have to dive in to the grungy, nastiness of potty training and get it done.

The main part of this method is teaching your child to learn how to read her body’s signs. No diapers. No pull ups. No padded underwear. Not at night-time, not in the car, not a friend’s house. Just underwear. And you will go through a lot of underwear. I bought about 20 pairs and used them all up several times. There’s a lot of laundry. You don’t go anywhere for 3 days. I had to have help come in to take care of Belle (thanks Emily, Andrew, Annalea, Kirby, Dan!) I was asking Solace 100s of times a day to let me know when she had to go potty and if her underwear were dry. There was a lot of praise and encouragement. No scolding or discipline for accidents (she’s been peeing and pooping wherever she wanted for 2 years!)

Stickers were her incentive. When she would pee or poop in the potty she got to put a sticker on the chart and then got one to wear as well. The first day sucked. It was so bad I wanted to sob and be mean to everyone that night.

Day two was AMAZING. Only two accidents all day. We read a lot, watched movies, danced…

I painted her little toes for the first time :)

IMG_5511 IMG_5495

Day 3 was terrible. So many accidents. I thought for sure she had regressed…until day 4 and she only had 1 accident all day. She peed 9 times in the potty and pooped 3 times! You guys! She was trained in 3 days! She tells me every time she needs to go to the bathroom! Now, she still is struggling with night-time training but we will get it down. And I’d rather change sheets than ruin all my training by putting a diaper on her!

There are a bunch of steps to follow when using this method. I haven’t mentioned them all. Please don’t try to do it based on this post alone! Buy the e-book. I can answer any questions and can gladly coach you (from the sidelines!).

I didn’t do any house work except laundry and during nap time, I slept. That was my life for 4 days. But:

Look at my big girl on the potty :)

Happy 9 months, Belle-Belle!

29 Nov

Yay! Belle has been out of the womb for as long as she was in and I’m still NOT PREGNANT! :)

Guys, if you have never spent time with Belle, then you haven’t truly experienced life yet. She is the happiest, funniest, most sociable 9 month old there is. We are so smitten with her.

*she weighs 19 lbs
*loves to interact with people
*learned to crawl 2 weeks ago
*loves to nap with her blankie and sucking her thumb

*is truly happy all the time
*only cries when she is sick or hurt
*loves loves loves her big sister
*mama is her favorite (what can I say?)
*she makes everyone feel like they’re the best with babies

*has started eating some table food
*can get herself up into a sitting position from laying down
*has one little nub of a tooth
*makes the funniest faces and noises
*her tongue is her favorite

*she’s the sweetest. I can’t say it enough
*she loves to snuggle
*she screams at dogs
*has blue eyes still
*she has a patch of blond hair on the back of her head
*giggles when she’s tickled or playing peek-a-boo

I don’t know what we would do without our Belle. My heart just aches when I think about how much I love her and how she makes our family so much…more. More love, joy, happy, silly, sweet. Ugh. Come hold her and play with her. You will not regret it.
