A weekend with the Tacoma Laparras

20 Apr

This weekend was nothing spectacular. We didn’t do anything extra special. However, I ended up taking a lot of pictures. It just felt different; sunny, fun, relaxing, lovely. I love, love, love living by the water! So, rather than blow up Instagram (which I am not beneath doing), I figured I would post them here instead. Family, if you want any, just text me. :)

No, we haven’t been so busy these past couple months that I have barely blogged. It’s not that, for sure. It’s just…life. Pregnancy. Family. Babies. Friends. I don’t do very well when I’m pregnant. I don’t like it and it sure doesn’t like me. Unfortunately that means other things get put on a back burner and almost forgotten about. My precious blog is one of those things.

But now, it’s my favorite time of year. My favorite month of the year. Soon to be my favorite day of the year. Not to mention this baby boy is due in 3 weeks. Here’s a peek inside our lives the last few months up until just two days ago.

Tea time with Solace

7 Feb

Yesterday Solace and I had our first tea party together. I made her some caffeine free Cinnamon Apple Spice tea with honey and I had coffee. Belle sat in the high chair eating a snack while Sol and I played together. Neither of them whined for almost 2 hours. It was bliss.

I can pretty much interpret most of what Solace is talking about. During our tea party we talked about my, hers and Ariel’s boobs, Papa, Angie G., uncle Michael, pants, jackets, taking sips of tea, worrying whether Belle had enough food, and prayed to Jesus. I think this will become a weekly, if not daily, tradition. I think it was helpful for her to have my undivided attention and to learn to relax and chill out for a while.

She loves to say “cheers!” and tap our cups together.

She’s growing up too fast.

Here’s a long video for anyone who cares to watch Sol in action. She’s a chatty girl for sure.

Christmas tree time!

19 Dec

This is late but whatever. Nick, Dan, Julia, myself and the girls went downtown Tacoma to twofivetrees to pick out a tree this year. We stopped by Anthem to get some coffee first of course.

Found it hidden in the back. The perfect one!

That evening we decorated the tree + listened to Christmas music and then watched White Christmas.

Hello October

9 Oct

I’m still here! Yes, I am. However, I’ve had no “alone” time in a long while which is when I really like to blog. As I write this post, this is my view…

This is my favorite month. I have so many things planned! So far we’ve done this:

and this:

It’s getting chilly around here! I love it.

So, I really miss blogging and when I do get the chance to sit down longer, you will be barraged with way too many posts. You’ve been warned.

She kills me.

Sisters share a room!

15 Aug

Belle has been sleeping in our room for the past 5 months. I’ve been so done with her being in our room. I love her, but girl, we need space from each other. Nick and I needed to be able to turn the light on in our room after 7:30pm and talk above a micro-whisper.

My mom has been here for almost 2 weeks and before she left, I wanted to get the girls in Sol’s room together and have some motherly support while doing so. We try to lay them down at the same time so we don’t disturb Solace by bringing Belle in when she’s almost asleep and vice versa.

Night 1– Their first night together was Sunday evening. It went so well! I was shocked. They slept together like it was nothing new and didn’t wake up- either of them- until almost 8am!

Night 2– Not as well. Belle fell asleep immediately but was scared awake by loud men in the hallway. I had to finally rock her to sleep (which hasn’t happened in about 4 months) and then laid her back down. Solace was awake for all that time but she never cried. Just stared.

Night 3– Worse. Belle does NOT like being separated from me and being in a new room. She cried for 30 minutes and my mom sat on the top steps to block me from going in to get her! Solace, again, just laid there and would randomly pop her head up.

Night 4– No fussing from either when we put them down. My mom and I left to read at Metronome and Nick had the girls. He said at one point Solace cried a lot, which was unlike her. Finally she gave up crying and talked and sang instead. Belle did a lot better.

Night 5– No problems this time. Solace did talk and sing, per usual, before falling asleep. However, Belle was up a lot during the night because she would realize she didn’t have her paci. Every time I would go in, Solace would pop her head up and then lay right back down. Then Belle was up way to early so I brought her into my room in the pack-n-play so she could cry it out in there and not bother her sleeping sister.

Night 6– They both fell asleep almost immediately. Solace sang and talked for a bit and then knocked out. I think we’re getting somewhere!

All in all, it was a great decision. We finally got our first monitor/video monitor since Sol was 5 months old. It’s weird being able to see and hear the girls on the monitor and not have to strain to hear above the house noise or having to peek in the room without waking one.

As for naps, they sleep in separate rooms in the afternoon. I want them to nap as well as possible and that’s our best option since Belle sleeps longer than Solace. So, I just keep a pack-n-play set up where Belle’s crib used to be.

Let the girly giggles, chats, and mischief begin!

One year in Tacoma, WA!

12 Jun

You guys! We have lived in Tacoma for 1 whole year now! It feels like so much longer because this year has been so crazy, fun, and busy.  We have genuinely loved living here. While it was difficult leaving all our friends in Minneapolis, I truly believe it was the right decision to move. It’s crazy how God works in our lives. We love this city so much, our friends, our gathering at Soma, the weather, the atmosphere, our house, and Mt Rainer! (I am in awe every time I see that mountain.)

Blessed beyond words! Looking forward to more years here!
